Foxconn and JD.com have participated in a funding round for Jide, which is developing a custom-engineered version of the Android operating system.

China-based software developer Jide Technology has closed a RMB100m ($16m) series A round featuring electronics manufacturer Foxconn Technology and e-commerce company JD.com, China Money Network reported earlier today.

The round was led by private equity firm Trustbridge Partners.

Jide has developed a version of the Android mobile operating system that is optimised for tablets, aiming to turn them into full-fledged replacements for laptops by making it easier to perform functions such as document creation or emailing.
