Reed Elsevier, a UK and Netherlands-based publisher, has acquired Mendeley, a local research management and collaboration platform, for an undisclosed amount.
News provider TechCrunch said the deal was valued at between $69m and $100m.
Mendeley has raised capital from Russia-based conglomerate Access Industries and venture capital firms Ambient Sound Investment, Andurance Ventures and Passion Capital.
