MFI is a spin out venture from the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology and has sold at least 25% to X-Fab Semiconductor Foundries.

X-Fab Semiconductor Foundries, a Germany-based chip maker, has acquired 25.5% of local peer MEMS Foundry Itzehoe (MFI), with an option to become majority shareholder.

MFI is a spin out venture from the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology.

Separately, Rudi De Winter has also become co-chief executive of X-Fab, alongside Hans-Jürgen Straub.
