Vodafone Ventures joined venture capital firms Sequoia Capital, Softbank Capital, and Novel TMT Ventures in the B round for GameGround, its first deal in the social gaming sector.

UK-listed mobile phone operator Vodafone’s corporate venturing unit has joined the $5.3m series B round for GameGround, a US-based gaming company.

Vodafone Ventures joined venture capital firms Sequoia Capital, Softbank Capital, and Novel TMT Ventures in the round, which came as GameGround launched its service into beta testing.

Peter Barry, head of Vodafone Ventures, confirmed it was the first deal it had done in social gaming.
