Artificial intelligence developer Preferred Networks, which spun out of Preferred Infrastructure last year, is receiving $8.3m from the carmaker as part of a strategic partnership.

Automotive manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation is set to invest ¥1bn ($8.3m) in Japan-based language processing and machine learning technology developer Preferred Networks.

Preferred Networks was spun out of technology research firm Preferred Infrastructure in March 2014, and is developing real-time machine learning technologies that can be integrated into internet of things products.
