Goldbard was previously general counsel at Google Ventures. Her arrival is part of an expansion of Woven Capital's capabilities following the announcement of a new $800m fund last year.
Inga Goldbard has been appointed as head of legal at Woven Capital, the $1.6bn growth investment arm of carmaker Toyota.
In the newly created role, Goldbard will partner closely with the investment and operations teams across all aspects of the fund, from investment and governance to risk management and portfolio support.
Goldbard has previously represented companies across a range of industries and stages, from formation through IPO, and advised VC and private equity firms through the full suite of investment, divestment and acquisition transactions.
She was previously general counsel at Google Ventures, one of Alphabet’s investment arms, where she supported a global investing team deploying capital across multiple funds, strategies, and geographies. Prior to that, she worked as an associate at law firms Fenwick & West and WilmerHale.
The fund also appointed Shun Tanaka as portfolio success manager. He will be responsible for connecting the fund’s growing portfolio with Toyota business units in Japan to unlock strategic collaboration across the group.
Tanaka has over 15 years of experience in semiconductors having worked at Wolfspeed, Intel and Freescale Semiconductor in the past.
The appointments are signs of Woven Capital being in an expansion phase following the announcement of a new $800m fund last year and the appointment of Ro Gupta as the new managing director of the fund. Several staff have seen promotions, including Michiko Kato and Mia Panzer being appointed the as chief investment officer and chief operating officer respectively.
Woven Capital manages $1.6bn in assets across two $800m funds. The unit backs around 20 portfolio companies per fund, with initial cheques typically ranging between $10m and $35m. Woven invests primarily from series B to pre-IPO. Approximately 80% of its portfolio companies have strategic collaborations with the Toyota Group.
