Intel, ABB and Nidec Sankyo have exited Persimmon Technologies in an acquisition by Sumitomo Heavy Industries valued at almost $32m.

Industrial equipment manufacturer Sumitomo Heavy Industries (SHI) has acquired Persimmon Technologies, a US-based vacuum robotics technology provider backed by several corporates, for a price reported by 3D Printing Industry to be ¥3.6bn ($31.8m).

Persimmon develops and manufactures vacuum robotics technology for use in the semiconductor, LED and flat panel display equipment industries, as well as electric motor systems.

The company had raised $31.7m in funding, according to press releases and securities filings.
