The telecom company is setting the unit up a part of a strategic shift to mobile, and will look to invest in startups in emerging markets.
China-based telecommunications firm China Unicom is set to establish a corporate venturing subsidiary, Chinese tech website C114 has reported, citing a company statement.
China Unicom plans to use the fund to invest in startups in the mobile internet space, and sees it as part of a general strategic shift to mobile. It will also seek to invest in businesses in emerging markets outside China.
