Aurora has announced it is set to buy the lidar system developer, which had raised more than $21m from investors including BMW i Ventures and Toyota AI Ventures.
Autonomous driving technology developer Aurora intends to buy Blackmore Sensors and Analytics, a US-based light detection technology maker backed by carmakers BMW and Toyota, for an undisclosed amount.
Founded in 2016, Blackmore is developing light detection and ranging (lidar) technology-based sensors that use light to pinpoint objects and measure distance rather than the traditional method of radio signals.
The sensors leverage frequency-modulated continuous waves of light to detect objects at a greater range whilst using less power.
