A+E Networks has exited online television portal TVPlayer, three years after leading a $6.4m round for the UK-based company.

Over-the-top (OTT) media company Alchimie has invested an undisclosed amount to acquire UK-based online television provider TVPlayer, allowing broadcaster A+E Networks to exit.

Formed and subsequently spun off by OTT platform developer Simplestream, TVPlayer runs an online portal where viewer can access free-to-air channels such as BBC 1 and 2, ITV and Channel 4 through web and mobile apps.

A+E Networks led a $6.4m round for the company in 2016 that was also backed by venture capital firm Beringea.…
